Let’s Celebrate Women
Let’s Celebrate Women is this week’s blog subject as there have been several significant events in my life:
- My daughter’s birthday on Wednesday,
- International Women’s Day on Thursday and,
- Mother’s Day today
I feel strongly that we are all equal irrespective of race, colour or religion. The world is changing and although there is still someway to go to achieve consistent equality; I hope and believe we will get there one day.
My little girl is now an official teenager
We officially have a teenager in the house now….. let the door slamming and shouting commence ! Only joking, I am unbelievably proud of my little girl and the young lady she is becoming. She loves a “99” ice cream and races out of the house when she hears the ice cream van jingle to make sure she doesn’t miss out. I know that the Cool Treats stamp set and co-ordinating framelits are perfect for her birthday.
The background is created using “You’re Sweet, You’re Cool” and it creates the perfect background – do you like it?
I love the stamped ripple sauces on the ice cream. The middle ice cream is heat embossed with clear powder to emphasise the dark raspberry ripple image. The outer two ice creams have a swoosh of glitter from the Wink of Stella brush. The next picture shows in more detail the techniques on the card.
The ice cream cone framelits are dimensional thanks to the criss cross lattice over the basic cone shape. The “Happy Birthday” sentiment jumps out on a layer of coloured cardstock.
My daughter is also a big fan of rose gold and theclosest Stampin’ Up product is the copper foil card. I used this with the Polka Dot embossing folder and the Large Numbers framelits to create the following card from me and hubby.
What is International Women’s Day?
I googled this question and 20.7 million results came back but the top result was the official IWD 2018 website and there is such a powerful message of #pressforprogress to push for gender parity. This is a global movement and one that I fully support even more so as I see my daughter growing up. I watched an interesting You tube clip a couple of days ago which is the result of a children’s role play regarding equality – click here to watch it
Another day of “let’s celebrate women” – in the UK we are celebrating mum’s, step-mum’s grandma’s and nana’s. I am also remembering those people who find this an incredibly difficult day to celebrate.
I’m so lucky to have been able to have children of my own and I can’t begin to imagine the anguish that parents who are unable to biologically have their own children. Everyone assumes that getting pregnant is the easiest thing in the world but it really isn’t. Then there are those who are estranged from their families or have lost their parents and again the whole pressure of Mother’s Day can become too much. If this is you then I send you love and hope that there are brighter days to come.
I want to share the two cards I presented to my mum and my mother in law today along with the promise of taking them both out for afternoon tea. The second card is a great card for any female please let me know which is your favourite below.
The above card you might remember from a few weeks ago – Crafty Cuppa Mother’s Day blog post
Then this second card I chose heat embossing in white powder and then used the fabulous Stampin’ Blends to colour in the image – see all our ink options here
I love love love the dazzling diamonds glimmer paper which is perfect to cut out the Celebrate You sentiment – it perfectly complements the Stampin’ Blends colours I used.
