Welcome to this month’s friends of SUBA blog hop where it’s all about a colour combo challenge. You may have just joined me from the fabulous Gina at Emerald Kreations or starting the hop with me first. There is a full list of everyone in the hop at the end of my post although we are a couple of people missing this month. Mikaela and Sandra are both enjoying this year’s incentive trip which is an Alaskan cruise as we speak. They will both be back with us next month on 19th August.
SUBA stands for Simply Unique Business Angels and is a partnership between Louise Sims and Pip Todman. Their aim is to provide technology support for entrepreneurs and you can find out more about them here. The Friends of SUBA is a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators who’ve attended SUBA training and want to develop their blogging skills.
What’s a colour combo challenge?
Simply, it’s a set combination of colours which are used for a project along with the option of whisper white, very vanilla or basic black. Caro chose this month’s combination of Shaded Spruce, Granny Apple Green and Soft Sea Foam. These colours come from 3 of the 4 Stampin’ Up! colour collections yet they still complement each other perfectly.
As I sat down to create today my mind went blank but then I remembered I’d seen the talented Susan Wong share a great tip the other day. She demonstrated how to get a “dog ear” corner on your card layer on her Instagram page and I wanted to have a go. Basically, you take a card corner and wiggle it forwards and backwards until the layers start to part. Then you using your scissor snips or the Stampin’ Pierce tool you gently separate the layers and get this cute “dog ear” effect shown below.
Would you like to see the finished version in full?
Here is a close up and I used the Share What You Love stamp set for this project. I used Wink of Stella on the flower petals and added some white twine along with Soft Sea Foam twinkle sequins to add a little extra wow to the card.
Now I’d found my crafting mojo I decided to create a scrap book layout for you too !
Colour combo scrapbook layout
I haven’t had much chance to play with the Birthday Background stamp set so I grabbed it off my shelves. I’ve not popped a photo on it yet but there is space left for it.
I built up the background by swapping the stamps and ink colours around to create a border. Next I cut 3 pieces of card to layer up and stamped the “firework burst” on the top layer corners.
To hellp the sentment pop out I cut 2 Happy Birthday’s out in different cardstock colours and then glued them together slightly offset. The Shaded Spruce is a very rich deep colour so the zesty Granny Apple Green just helps the sentiment pop out from the layout page.
I’m off to see what hubby and the munchkins are up to before this post goes live. Thank you so much for joining me today and I’d love to hear which project was your favourite and why in the comments below!
