Hello and welcome to another month with me and my Stamptastic Friends and we have a masculine theme for May 2020.
So how are you today and where are you joining me from? In case you are new to me my name is Carrie aka The Inky Nook based in the UK and I love to craft with Stampin’ Up products and share these at my classes. Whether you are a beginner or a more experience crafter than this blog hop will inspire you to be creative.
Keeping it masculine
I don’t know about you but making cards for the men in my life never feels quite as simple as when I’m making them for my female friends and family. However the Sailing Home stamp set and designer series paper are perfect for a masculine themed project. I made two fun fold cards for the hop but I’m only going to share one of them with you today and the other one next week.
I am getting near the end of my Sailing Home designer series paper pack (which retires at the end of May 2020) so I decided to have a go at the scrappy edge technique which has been made famous by Bruno Bertucci over in Australia. They had recently purchased a painting which inspired him to re-create it in a card format. Basically, you cut strips out on your paper trimmer at slight angles and then position and glue them to a card layer. Most the cards I’ve seen have had vertical strips but I’ve switched it to a horizontal format as you can see in the picture below.
The scrappy strips are quite striking so for the inside of the card I went for a white cardstock layer with a die cut of the lighthouse stamped image. When I glued it to the layer I offset it over the edge of the white layer and the card base to make resemble the lighthouse on a cliff top. I trimmed off the excess overhang to give a nice clean cut edge.
If you’d like any of the measurements or a quick tutorial then just drop me a quick comment below or message me here and we can get in touch to arrange this. I will also include a product list after the blog hop list so you can see exactly what I used to make the card if you want to re-create it at home.
Time to hop on
Now it is time for us to say goodbye and for you to make your way around the rest of the hop. Enjoy being inspired by each and everyone of us and we all appreciate any comments from you. Until next time…….
Inky hugs,
Carrie xx
Product List (don’t forget your clear blocks)
Great card and great way to use the last scraps of DSP! Thanks for sharing x
Thanks Helen – I’ve seen so many cards with the scrappy strip technique I had to have a go 🙂
Inky hugs,
Carrie
The scrappy strip technique is fabulous and works really well here!
Thanks Heather – it was fun to make this card and I normally find a male card more difficult to make don’t you agree?
Inky hugs,
Carrie
Love this, that is a great technique for using up those smaller pieces of dsp.
Thanks Leighsa – it makes it worthwhile hanging onto those scraps doesn’t it 🙂
Inky hugs,

Lovely card Carrie, making use of all those odd little bits of DSP. xx
Thanks Deb – I might have a go with a more feminine card next time 🙂
Inky hugs,

Great card. I love the new fold and scrappy technique.
Thanks Ginny – I’ve made a fancy fold card this week and I’ve used the Best Dressed DSP to replicate the scrappy strips on the back cover. See you again soon !
