Hello and welcome to The Inky with me, Carrie ! I don’t know about you but I always find a male birthday card more difficult to create. However I have a great idea to share today using the Sweet Ice Cream stamps and ice cream punch.
Last week I shared a Father’s Day card idea using the same colours I am using today. I know my husband, dad and brother would all be happy to receive this card. Do you find male birthday cards harder to make?
Male birthday cards
Lots of male birthday cards have ‘traditional’ sport or whiskey/beer images on them and that’s a bit like saying one size fits all. So for my male birthday card today I chose more masculine colours to use with the ice cream stamps. The shading from the ice cream scoop stamp means that these colours are toned down.
How can I create this card?
Create a night of navy card base measuring 14.9cm by 21cm and score down the middle of the 21cm length at 10.5cm. Next cut 2 white layers measuring 10cm x 14.4cm, one will be for the inside of the card. I embossed the layer on the front of my card but you could leave it plain.
I stamped an ice cream scoop in the blue and green inks and then the cone was created using the two browns inks. Whilst I waited for these to dry for a few seconds I stamped the Happy Birthday onto a white strip and then cut a navy strip to act as a frame behind it.
I punched out the scoops and cone with the ice cream punch. As I lined up the ice cream stack above the cone before gluing them into place I decided to make some flake sticks too. I used the lollipop stick stamp and early espresso ink to create the chocolate flakes and fussy cut them out myself. What do you think?
I would challenge you to take one of your stamp sets now and pick out some masculine colours to create your own male birthday card. Why not make a few of them at the same time so you have a little stash ready to send out in advance.
Until next time,
