Hello and welcome to The Inky Nook. Today I am sharing my parents wedding anniversary card I made last weekend. They have been married for 47 years and I admire how they have embraced the ups and downs of life together.

I saw fellow demonstrator Karen Gillies share this style of card in a recent team meeting a month and have been excited to give it a go. It’s a slide and lock card and basically the centre section slides down the middle of the card base and locks. Would you like to see it?

Create a gate fold card base

Firstly, create a gate fold card base and glue some designer series paper to the outside folds. You will need a card layer on the inside for when you send the card. My card base measures 14.9cm by 21cm scored at 5.2cm on each end. The designer series paper strips are 14.1cm by 4cm. My inside layer is white and measures 14.4cm by 10cm and I added some stamped dragonflies on it.

Make the sliding lock mechanism

Next I needed to create the sliding lock mechanism which requires 4 pieces of cardstock measuring 6.5cm by 6.5cm. Take two of these squares and score them down the centre at 3.3cm. Place one of the remaining squares in front of you and then glue the two folded squares on top of it. The folded edges should meet against each other in the middle. If you look at them from the side they create a “X” shape. Following this, glue the remaining square on top of the exposed folded edges to create a sandwich. I tested that the sliding lock travelled along the gate fold card base before adding the final topper.

My sliding lock is topped with a square (7cm by 7cm) in the same colour as the base and I you can glue to the lock. I decided to add a white square (6.6cm by 6.6cm) topped with 2 dragonflies cut out with the dragonflies punch. You could then just pop some designer series paper on to finish it and a sentiment.
