It’s always lovely to celebrate big birthdays and as a 40-something I really wasn’t phased about turning 40. I am not defined by an age but for some people it is a huge turning point for them.
Oprah Winfrey was quoted as saying: “The way I see it , every year can be a brand new journey….. You get one chance to be 25,8,44 ,61 and every age before and between. Why wouldn’t you want to experience all the wonder in each step on your path?” Oprah is an incredible Black woman whom I admire immensely for being an advocate for those without a voice and her successes as a business woman.
This is a great 50th birthday card as it is feminine, simple and stylish. The recipient loves earthy greens and blush pink tones which for instance equates to Evening Evergreen and Petal Pink in Stampin’ Up! Mint Macaron seems an ideal colour to complete a pairing of 3 colours.
Let’s get started with this 50th birthday card
First off I cut a card base measuring 14.9cm by 21cm from an A4 sheet of Evening Evergreen cardstock. This is scored at 10.5cm on the long edge and will then require a fold over. After that, I cut 2 framing layers: one from Petal Pink measuring 12.9cm by 8.5cm and one from Basic White measuring 12.4cm by 8cm.
Meanwhile it is to get stamping with the Hand Penned Petals stamp set. This is a two step stamp set allowing you to layer two or more images to create one final image with extra dimension and texture. Hand drawn floral images in this set coordinate with infill stamps to give an effortless watercoloured image.
After that use Memento Black to stamp the largest floral stamp onto some spare white cardstock twice. Follow this up by infill stamping the flowers and leaves which I am using Petal Pink and Evening Evergreen ink pads for. I positioned these on to the white card layer with stampin’ dimensionals.
Adding the die cut details and finishing touches
In addition the Mint Macaron stitched curvy strip is cut from the Hand Penned dies and the “50” is from the Playful Alphabet dies which are a must have for any card maker ! All die cuts are going to be stuck down with adhesive. The final step is to add the Happy Birthday sentiment. Stamp this in Evening Evergreen and fussy cut out before securing to the card with dimensionals again. A quick brush here and there with my Wink of Stella adds just a hint of sparkle to the final card.
To take this card a step further you could create a handmade envelope from the Hand Penned designer series paper. For today I have just stamped the large floral stamp across the envelope flap to add some detail to it.
Thank you for joining me today and I hope you might now have a go to idea for a big birthday card for someone you know.
Until next time,
