Stamptastic Friends blog hop wording in blue and pink font

The Stamptastic Friends are back for our final blog hop of 2024. Therefore cardmaking needs to be quick and easy as our time is limited with Christmas preparations. I’ve got a stylish yet simple birthday card to share with you today. It uses stamps, ink and card and some sort of colouring pens. The Sweet Peas stamp set has the cutest pea images and is in the current annual catalogue. Shall we get started?

Simple birthday card in two ways. Both have white card bases with a pea pod filled with peas with party faces in a row. One card has a pink frame and the other has a blue frame.

I like to use thick white cardstock for my card bases to make the card sturdy and one sheet will get you 2 card bases. You could use normal white card though if you prefer it or don’t have any of the thick one. If you cut the sheet in half (measure at 14.9cm on the long side) and then score the long side on the card base at 10.5cm.

Meanwhile cut the coloured cardstock layer which will frame your white top layer. The coloured piece should measure about 14.4cm by 10cm and you can glue this straight to the card base.

The top card layer for my simple birthday card

Now we can create the top and final layer of our card. This is a piece of white card cut to 13.9cm by 9.5cm and simply stamp your chosen pea image(s) onto it. Give the memento ink a few minutes to dry and then colour in with your chosen colouring tools. Mine uses one of the watercolouring pencil sets but you could use stampin’ blends (alcohol markers if you’re new to SU) or a brush with the ink pads. You can add depth and tone with the pencils or blends to add dimension to your colouring. THerefore if you’re new to colouring have a practise on some scrap cardstock first.

Stamp your greeting below the “peas” in your chosen colour and I think it looks more finished if you use the same colour as the coloured frame card layer. You can see on my simple birthday cards that I’ve done one with coastal cabana and one with melon mambo. Fix this top layer above the coloured card frame with dimensionals to allow the layer to pop against the frame.

Finishing touches

If I wanted to add a few extra details to step this card up I would add some rhinestones or gems. Alternatively you could stamp the peas on to another piece of card, colour it and then fussy cut it out and stick to the top layer with dimensionals. If you can think of something else please share your idea in the comments below.

Now it’s time to hop on and see what my Stamptastic Friends have got to share with you too, until next time.

Inky hugs, Carrie x
