How to make your own cherry blossom Spring themed card

Spring is just around the corner and so I’m sharing a Cherry Blossom Spring themed card to inspire you in your cardmaking.

Spring themed card making steps

Start of by cutting your Fresh Freesia card base to size, it should measure 14.9cm by 21cm and then score the long side at 10.5cm.

Next I cut a black card layer measuring 13.9cm by 9.5cm to frame the top layer. The top layer cut from white cardstock needs to be cut to 13.5cm by 9cm and then an inside layer measuring 14.9 cm by 10cm.

Creating the Cherry Blossom layer

Background blending

Using a blending brush gradually build up a “grass” layer using the Soft Sea Foam ink pad on your white top layer. I worked mine up to just under the halfway point. Repeat this process using the Balmy Blue ink pad to create a “sky” background.

Before starting the die cutting, take a small piece of white cardstock and a blending brush and brush over with Bubble Bath ink to give a soft hue which contrasts between the white and the bubble bath cardstock. This will be used to create a mid tone between the full bubble bath flowers.

Die cutting steps

Now it’s time to use the die cuts to create your the cherry blossom flowers and tree parts. Die cut 4 pieces of the “stem” die as these will form the tree trunk and branches. I’ve added a picture below so you can see how I built mine up.

Die cut three different types of cherry blossom flowers from the Bubble Bath, White and blending brush coloured cardstock.

Building up the tree blossom

Simply, start building up the blossom along the branches and then in fill to create a blossom filled tree.

The final few flowers were secured using a small dimensional and as a finishing touch I also added some wink of stella to these few flowers. You can see this close up in the image below.
